Paintings and Drawings The paintings and drawings are arenas of play – the play of line, texture, color, shape and gesture. While the gesture forms the image, the mark making is also a recording of the movement of my hand, arm and body. Erasures are left visible – never completely gone. Paintings are layered images – whitewashed though at times still visible.
Animals and birds often appear in my paintings and drawings. I am interested in the gesture of these creatures and how gesture conveys an emotional state. To me, these creatures say something about the times in which we live. Sometimes the work portrays encounters between species, these chance meetings can be mysterious, sometimes dangerous and often the connections are ruptured or disjointed.
